Small-Group Navigation

When navigating in crowded environments, small groups face unique challenges. Their decision-making processes can be influenced by other group members, as well as the structure of their surrounds. For example, groups members might choose less complex or less efficient routes in order to avoid separation. This experiment compares the wayfinding efficiency of individuals and groups in complex and simple environments. The main hall of the Zurich Main Station provides an ideal environment for this comparison due to changes in environmental structure and crowdedness that occur during the Christmas market.
